DANVILLE — The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has joined the investigation into a pipe bomb explosion that damaged two cars here over Memorial Day weekend, an agency spokeswoman confirmed.
“The Danville Police Department requested our assistance and we are currently working with them on this investigation,” ATF public information officer Alexandria Corneiro said in an email to this newspaper.
Danville police Chief Allan Shields advised the public Thursday to be on the lookout for a man who may have witnessed the explosion. He is described as a white male, approximately 5-foot-10 to 6-foot tall, and around 240 to 250 pounds. He was driving a white sedan, which police say could be a Jaguar.
Police have not yet released a cause of the explosion or named any suspects. No injuries have been reported.
The blast was reported 7:10 p.m. Sunday, near the Smart & Final at 460 Diablo Road in Danville. Two vehicles had minor damage.
Police say anyone with information on the incident can contact Danville police Det. Sgt. Ron Hoekwater at 925-314-3703 or rhoekwater@danville.ca.gov.
